Solar Thermal Energy

Solar thermal energy (STE) is one those energy that is self explicated. This energy is produced by the sun and is the most commonly used form of thermal energy. It's one of the oldest form of energy. In theory, Archimedes used this form of energy to burn ships.  STE is a radiation type of energy and produces one megawatt hour (MWh). Albert Einstein was awarded for his research on STE, while discovering the solar photo-voltaic cell. Australia is the highest continent in  solar energy radiation.  STE is also commonly used by farmers in Europe.

Some types of STE are: Domestic Hot Water (DHW), Swimming Pool/ Hot tub-Heating, Space Heating (Radiant), and Combi  (combination of any of the systems).

"The three classifications of solar thermal are:

  1. Low-temp: solar pool heaters

  2. Medium-temp: residential and commercial solar hot water systems

  3. High-temp: use mirrors to focus the sun’s energy, as in concentrated solar power collectors."
