The Church
Galileo had to face the church on several times. In 1616 Pope Paul V summoned Galileo to Rome. While there he was humiliated, but not imprisoned. Galileo was told that he could no longer support Nicholas Copernius. Nicholas saw that the universe was a sun-centered. The church wanted people the see that earth was the center. In 1623 Galileo friend Urban VIII became Pope, allowing him to finish his studys on astronomy. Urban encouraged Galileo to publish his findings After the publication of his book "Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems", Galileo was summoned again to Rome in 1633. He was questioned about his ideas covering heliocentrism. At first he denied any dealings on the subject, but then stated that he have done so unintentionally. As punishment Galileo was force to be under house arrest, where he wasn't allow to continue his studies.
